HDI Launches Mobile App

vlcsnap-2014-07-02-15h08m02s236As part of efforts towards encouraging participating in governance issues among young people, the Human Dvelopment Initiatives has launched a mobile Application to make reporting Local Government issues a click  away. The event which held on July 2nd, 2014 had in attendance dignitaries such as Honorable Yishawu Gbolahan of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Eti osa constituency II, Mr Bolarinwa Rotimi of the Public Complaint Commission and Mr Balogun of the Ministry of Local Government and chieftaincy affairs.

At the event, Hon. Yishawu Gbolahan, said that it is the duty of the citizens to hold public officers accountable to their promises while they are still in office.

He noted that citizens only show interest in governance during election but after the elections, they do not follow up on whether or not the promises made are kept.

“You are our employers and must always hold us accountable” he said. He also noted that the public to a large extent contribute a lot to the fueling of corruption in public office. “When you are asking public office holders for what they cannot afford, you are indirectly forcing them to steal. Some of you ask them for money to spend on wedding and other things like that, you forget that there are many other people asking them for the same things” he said.

vlcsnap-2014-05-23-08h58m13s123Speaking on the mobile application for monitoring budget implementation at the grassroots, the Executive Director of HDI, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, noted that the world is becoming a global village and that the place of social media platforms in campaigning against corruption is indispensable.
