GET GLOBAL: HDI task teenagers on good character, leadership

Human Development Initiatives (HDI) has advised teenagers to brace up as growing leaders in Nigeria and adopt good character and attitudes that can help them achieve their goals in life. This call was made at the 2014 annual leadership training for teenagers popularly called Get Global.

Speaking at the event, CEO of Liberty career academy, Mr. Gbenga Rufai told the teenagers that what makes the difference between people who will succeed and those who will end up as failures in life is the strength of their character. He noted further that people chose whom to work with in leadership based on the character of the leader. Therefore it is important that they maintain good character.

Speaking also on financial Literacy at the event is the Assistant Public Relations officer of McPherson University, Mr Sunday Ayodeji Adeshina who has also been one time Business Day youngest Nigerian Investor. He encouraged the teenagers to develop the habit of saving now in their prime and avoid eating their future today so that they will not grow into irresponsible adults.

Other highlights of the event include career talk, sexuality education and a tour to the production factory of Guniness Nigeria Plc.

Accroding to the facilitator, Mrs Olufunso Owasanoye, the one week training is born out of the need to catch future leaders young and imbibe in them the various characters that are worthy of the leaders of tomorrow that will bring the desired change to the nation. She also emphasised that the programme serves as avenue for counselling the young people on their sexuality under an atmosphere of confidentiality that will engender trust.
